It collapsed instantly due to a combination of disaster factors such as overloaded cargo, poor lashing, mechanical defects, steering mistakes, and inadequate evacuation instructions^1. Henk Boom, who oversaw the Sewol Ferry simulation, said, "We will use experiments to find out how factors such as stability, rudder angle, and cargo movement affected the rapid tilting of the Sewol Ferry"^5.
