Are you practicing 'tsuvigniel' (expensive interior items never used) with books you buy but never read? Or are you stuck in the 'Bookstagram' trend, just taking photos of books for social media? It's time to start a truly hip reading life. Seoul City's first-ever public reading club, 'Hip-dok Club,' is finally opening its doors in April 2025!

What is Hip-dok Club?

'Hip-dok Club' combines the trendy term 'hip' with 'dok(讀)', meaning 'to read' in Korean^1. It's Seoul City's ambitious project to transform libraries from rigid, serious spaces into 'fun' places^3.

Riding the 'Text-hip' wave popular among MZ generations, the goal is to create a culture not just of 'owning' books but 'reading' them^3. The club will freely navigate between online and offline spaces, offering new experiences in reading.

The club's mascot character 'Hip-dogi' is also noteworthy. Combining 'dok(讀)' with 'Dog,' this character features a dog image with black coloration symbolizing text, perfectly representing Hip-dok Club's identity^1.
