While central regions are experiencing snowfall, the exact opposite situation is unfolding in the Yeongnam region. Dry weather and strong winds continue to raise the risk of forest fires.

• Dry warnings have been issued for Gumi, Gyeongsan, Goryeong, Sangju and other parts of North Gyeongsang Province, as well as Daegu
• Dry advisories continue for the rest of North Gyeongsang Province and South Gyeongsang Province
• Strong northwest winds crossing over the Sobaek Mountains are creating what's known as the "foehn phenomenon," further intensifying the dryness in the Yeongnam region
• The dry conditions are expected to persist with no rain in the forecast for the time being

What's particularly concerning is that while most of the large forest fires in North Gyeongsang Province have been extinguished, the situation cannot be considered completely safe, as embers reignited overnight in Andong. With winds expected to reach 15 m/s, and up to 20 m/s in mountainous areas, the risks of forest fire spread and reignition are very high.
